The company metallurgical coal business of Jim Walter Resources (JWR) is the most southern Appalachian coal producer. [Edit] The company was founded in 1977 by former Coca-Cola, iron and chemical industries, U.S. Pipe and Foundry Company.

History
The company, formerly known as Walter Industries, Inc. and changed its name to Walter Energy in April 2009. The predecessor company was founded by Tampa entrepreneur at the end of James W. Walter, Sr. in 1946. It was removed by Mueller Water Products, in 2006, Jim Walter Homes closed in 2009, a distinction Walter Investment Management Corporation in 2009.
