Gordon Brown become the Prime Minster of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, taking office on 27 June 2007.  He has previously served under Tony Blair as the Chancellor of the Exchequer from 1997 to 2007.

The National Health Service has entered its 60th year and Gordon Brown has promised to keep the NHS at the top of the Government's agenda.  Gordon Brown also praised staff for delivering  a higher standard of service.
